Davey Chase’s boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, launched a GoFundMe campaign to help her “find solace and peace” in her final days ahead of her tragic death on Tuesday.
“My girlfriend Davey Chase has always been the light of my life. Many of you may know her as the talented child actor in Lilo & Stitch, Spirited Away, and Donnie Darko. But behind the scenes, she has faced more than her share of hardships,” Hernandez said in an online campaign.
“Davie, who had a difficult childhood and experienced a painful rift with her family, was bullied in downtown Los Angeles and struggled to find safety and happiness. When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserved. Together we found a moment of happiness and hope.”
Hernandez went on to explain that “everything changed” in their lives when Chase was diagnosed with meningitis and several “serious” blood infections.
“Her condition has become critical and doctors have said she may not have much time left to live. All she wanted was a place where we could live together and be safe and happy. Now more than ever I want to give her a sense of home and comfort in her final days,” he added.
“I understand that everyone is going through things, but if you can help, I would really appreciate anything you can do. And if you would just offer a prayer, I would appreciate it too. Thank you for considering helping us during this difficult time.”
As of this report, the campaign has raised $325 of its $5,500 goal.
Chase was diagnosed with meningitis and died at the age of 35 after a blood infection caused her body to become septic and incapacitated.
According to TMZ, Chase was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital earlier this month due to malnutrition.
The former actress was known for her roles in Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” and “Rings.” She won an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain for her role as Samara Morgan in the latter horror film.
She also voiced Chihiro Ogino in the American dubbed version of Spirited Away.
Her additional credits include “Big Love,” “Donnie Darko,” “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Beethoven’s Fifth,” “ER,” “Mercy,” and more.
