Billy Bob Thornton knows exactly why Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman” became a worldwide hit.
In an interview with Fox News Digital at the Newport Beach TV Fest, Thornton said people of all economic backgrounds enjoy The Landman, but the working class can also relate to the struggle.
“I think working people can really relate to the hardships their families go through and the people who work in this industry,” Thornton said.
Thornton told Fox News Digital why he believes “Landman” has become a worldwide hit, saying it’s all because of Sheridan’s “pin-to-the-point feel for people’s pulse.”
“What’s really amazing about Taylor is that she doesn’t…or what’s unique about Taylor is that she seems to understand everyone because this is a worldwide hit.
“‘The Landman’ is a global phenomenon. I think what’s different about this show is that most shows are true to the status quo. If it’s a drama, it’s a drama. Like ‘The Lioness,’ if it’s dangerous, it’s dangerous,” Thornton continued.
“But Landman has emotion and drama and humor and absurdity and danger. It has all of that. I think that’s what draws people to it. And on top of that, the cast are just people.”
“Landman” is based on the podcast “Boomtown.” The show chronicles the oil boom in the Permian Basin in West Texas that occurred in the early 2010s due to advances in oil drilling technology.
At the heart of the show is Thornton’s character, Tommy Norris. Thornton plays “Landman,” a crisis manager who works for an oil company called M-Tex. The series also stars Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, and Andy Garcia.
Speaking to FOX News Digital at the Newport Beach TV Fest, Garcia said Sheridan has built an extraordinary “ensemble” to execute “Landman.”
“Well, it starts with the quality of the script and the ensemble he chooses to carry out his words, and then the design, photography and direction of the show,” Garcia said. “But it all starts with the storytelling and Taylor’s words and the way he builds the season.”
Paramount+ has officially announced Season 3 of Landman.
