JioHotstar, India’s largest streaming platform, is recruiting for over 75 AI roles to build a dedicated artificial intelligence division, the company said on Wednesday.
This push spans engineering, production automation and creative technology, with the streamer positioning India’s multilingual scale and engineering base as a foundation for broader global expansion.
The new roles come with unconventional titles: Visionscaper, Soundscaper, Creative Technologist, Narrative Storytelling Lead, and Creator Facilitator. This reflects a structure where the design and creative production of AI systems sit within a single department rather than running in parallel to each other.
The announcement comes on the heels of ‘Mahabharat: Ek Dharmayudh’, which JioHotstar describes as its first fully AI-generated series. By running ideation, visual generation, and post-production simultaneously instead of sequentially, the company says it completed production three to five times faster than traditional pipelines, citing this result as proof that AI-native workflows can realistically replace traditional production architectures.
On the product side, the platform’s conversational AI is already powering multilingual, voice-driven content search. This is a meaningful feature in markets where audiences span dozens of languages. JioHotstar says it is working towards ads that respond to context and viewer emotions rather than inventory slots, and a recommendation system that works more like conversations than a browsing grid.
This hiring drive shows how aggressive India’s leading streamers are in bringing AI capabilities in-house, rather than relying on third-party tools. This is a bet that as the market matures, control of the underlying technology will become a competitive differentiator.
