Media One and BYD, which recently partnered on international premium content development and financing, have announced the first project from their agreement. It is a special episode of the “Miracle Chibi” series featuring BYD’s new electric car, the BYD Dolphin Surf.
The episode, titled “Watt a Dream Date!”, will be released globally on YouTube on Tuesday. This marks the beginning of a wide-ranging collaboration between BYD, which has now surpassed Tesla as the world’s top electric car company, and MediaOne, the European powerhouse co-founded by Pierre-Antoine Capton, whose portfolio includes 100 companies, including stakes in Plan B, Northroad, Seesaw Films and LuckyChap International.
Part of the globally popular “Miraculous” series, “Miraculous Chibi” is a short digital animated comedy spin-off built around slapstick humor and fast-paced nonverbal storytelling, featuring Ladybug, Chat Noir, and other characters from the series. The new 52-episode season, which ends in December 2025, has already racked up more than 350 million YouTube views worldwide, with viewership up 132% year-over-year, according to Media One.
In the special episode, Marinette uses a BYD Dolphin Surf to race through Paris in time for her date with Adrien. Along the way, a series of accidents turns the journey into a chaotic adventure, and an electric city car becomes a central element of the story.
Miraculous has already become a blockbuster series and one of France’s biggest animation exports worldwide. The series, created by Thomas Astrak, Jeremy Zag, and Nathanael Bron, has spanned six seasons, with a seventh season currently in production, as well as spin-offs and feature films. The series is produced by Miraculous Corp, a joint venture between Mediawan and ZAG, and is broadcast in more than 150 territories and has more than 60 million followers across social media platforms.
Financial terms of the transaction between the two companies were not disclosed, but it is expected to be a cash injection of more than 15 million euros. As part of the financial and creative partnership, BYD vehicles will appear in future Media One productions, including the upcoming Media One theatrical feature film Miraculous and several original formats inspired by the BYD brand. Media One’s output includes more than 400 titles a year, including original drama, unscripted documentaries, movies and animated content, including Plan B’s F1 and Adolescence, See-Saw Films’ Slow Horses and the popular series Call My Agent!. and “Back Rooms” on North Road.
In Cannes, Media One and BYD hosted the first edition of the Build Your Dream Award, chaired by Chinese filmmaker Chen Kaige and featuring a prestigious jury consisting of Mélanie Laurent, Hafsia Herji and Yann Demange. Ukrainian film director Zhanna Ozilna’s marital drama “Honeymoon” won the first award at a chic ceremony held on the terrace of Albane.
