Warning: Spoilers ahead. Do not proceed if you have not watched ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Episode 8.
“Euphoria” started out as a drama about troubled high school students, but Season 3 turns into a dangerous gangster drama, with Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) also murdered.
Did Zendaya’s Lou make it out alive?
About halfway through the 93-minute oversized episode, Lou dies of a drug overdose.
Tragedy occurs when Lou steals a bottle of pills from his boss, drug lord Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). She overdoses on fentanyl.
Her mentor, Ali (Colman Domingo), finds her dead on the couch.
Before that, Lou takes a trip down memory lane and remembers standing in a field with Fez (Angus Cloud, who in real life tragically died of an overdose in 2023). Cloud appears on screen with Zendaya, apparently in archival footage filmed before his death. They are standing arm in arm in a field.
Lou then has a long dream sequence in which she returns to her childhood home and visits her mother Leslie (Nica King), who is reading the Bible.
The camera then shows a distraught Ali who tries to wake Lou up on the couch but finds her unresponsive.
Several months later, an unspecified number of months later, Ali attended a support group meeting, talked about right and wrong, and said it would be his last meeting as he would find other ways to “serve.”
Jules (Hunter Schafer) is shown crying as she finishes drawing Lou. This is Jules’ only appearance in this episode.
Lou’s friend Lexi (Maud Apatow) tells Kathy (Sidney Sweeney) that Lou left behind her Bible and that she was to read it after Lou’s death. It’s unclear how much time has passed, but it’s been at least a month. Lexi admits that she feels “a lot of guilt that I let things go” regarding her relationship with Lou.
She says she learned from the Bible, “Bad things happen, so why worry about them? No matter what, you just have to keep going.” She added that she thought that was the “point” of the issue.
Ali later goes on a revenge mission for Lou. He puts on an old military uniform, goes to the Alamo strip club and begins filming. The two men have a confrontation that ends with Ali shooting Alamo dead.
The episode ends with Ari, a religious family whose lifestyle impressed Lou at the beginning of season 3, visiting the “homestead.” He calls Lou his “daughter” and says he wants to come because Ali remembers it being the most peaceful place he’s ever been. As the family and Ali pray for Rue, Zendaya’s voice says, “God bless us all.”
The show first aired in 2019, and in the first two seasons, Lou was a teenage drug addict. She overdosed several times, borrowed money from shady dealers like Laurie (Martha Kelly), had a toxic romance with Jules, and committed many self-destructive actions.
The role earned Zendaya two Emmy Awards and helped raise her profile.
At the end of the episode, Zendaya is shown giving a speech thanking the crew, saying, “Many of you have been here from the beginning and watching me grow,” calling it an “honor.”
The 28-year-old “Dune” star was already well-known after her Disney Channel career, but “Euphoria” has inspired her to try her hand at adult roles like “The Show” in recent years. Although this show did not debut her, it greatly contributed to her current superstar status.
Lou didn’t have much of a self-preservation instinct, but season 3 dispelled that even more.
In Season 3, after a five-year time jump, Lou is paying off her debt to Laurie through drug trafficking with her friend Faye (Chloe Cherry). She got out of this situation by working at the strip club mainstay, the Alamo, but that didn’t end well for her either.
Lou initially happily works for Alamo and his henchmen, including Bishop (Darrell Britt Gibson) and G (Marshawn Lynch). She ran his strip club and had an affair with a stripper, Angel (Priscilla Delgado).
However, she is caught by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and forced to spy on Alamo and Rory to avoid being thrown in jail.
She also became disillusioned when she realized that the strippers were not having fun working at the Alamo club. In general, Rue spent most of season 3 in hot water.
After talking with his sponsor Ali (Colman Domingo), Lou turns to the Bible for help. She was also intrigued by the “homestead” where she briefly stayed at the beginning of Season 3 while she was doing drug smuggling. They were a religious family who lived a simple farm life.
She also foolishly tells her friend Lexi (Maud Apatow) that she works for the DEA. Lexi tells Maddie (Alexa Demy) that she spilled the beans on the Alamo.
However, in the end, Lou did not die in the gang war. She died of an overdose.
This at least ends Lou’s chaotic story, with a tragic ending.
In March, the “The Drama” actress told Variety magazine that filming Season 3 was “a whirlwind,” saying, “We did in about four months what we should have done in eight months.”
In April, Akinnuoye-Agbaje exclusively told Page Six that Zendaya is “generous” and “very intelligent.”
He praised the actress for not being “precious” for the material.
“She can turn it on and off,” he said. “When we have to throw mud in her face, she’s like, ‘Put mud in my face!'” That’s what you look for in a scene partner, someone who’s ready to commit to the scene. ”
Zendaya is already on track for a breakout year, with several blockbuster roles lined up, including Dune: Part III and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
HBO has not officially confirmed whether this episode is the final episode of the series. It says “Season Finale.”
In April, Levinson told Variety that there were “no plans” for season four.
Zendaya also said on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that she thinks Season 3 is the end and that there will be “an end.”
