Love Island USA has kicked an islander out of the villa for the second year in a row after posts using the N-word surfaced on social media.
Vasana Montgomery will no longer appear on the reality dating series and will return to Peacock on June 2nd. The news comes just two days after season eight’s cast was announced, repeating a disturbing pattern. Last year, Yulissa Escobar was removed from the show in the second episode over a video that made the same slur. Later in the season, Sierra Ortega also left the team for similar reasons. She used a racist term against Asian people and claimed she “didn’t know” it was a slur.
Two different videos currently circulating online show Montgomery using the n-word. In one, she says, “Knock knock, n—” while playing some sort of shooting game at an arcade. In another photo, she’s sitting in her car rapping along to a song that uses the word. Both videos were originally posted to private accounts and were apparently not made publicly available until after the cast was announced, meaning they would not have been available for viewing during Peacock’s vetting process.
Montgomery is 25 years old and is from Beaverton, Oregon. In the casting announcement for Peacock, she said: “I think I have it all. I run a business, I live alone, and I have a dog. If you asked my friends what type of person I am, they would show me a map of the world.”
“Love Island USA” will air a new episode every day throughout its premiere week, followed by an episode every day except Wednesday. Hosted by Ariana Madix and narrated by Ian Stirling, the show also includes executive producers David George, Adam Sher, Jordana Hochman, Bernie Schaefer, Ben Thursby-Palmer, James Barker, Blake Garrett, Courtney Rosenthal, Sophie Brown, Richard Cowles, Mike Spencer, Tom Gould, Ali Hill and Martin Oxley. ITV America produces in association with Lifted Entertainment and Motion Entertainment.
