Christine Taylor believes the coronavirus pandemic saved her marriage to Ben Stiller after it ended nearly a decade ago.
“If there’s a silver lining for us during this pandemic, it’s a small gift,” Taylor, 54, said on Tuesday’s episode of the “McBride Rewind” podcast.
“We were having a blast with our kids. At the time, my daughter was graduating high school and my son was graduating eighth grade. We were all home together and all we had was time.”
Stiller and Taylor have two children, Ella (24) and Quinlyn (20).
Taylor told the host that after spending “a lot of time” building a relationship with a therapist, she and the Night at the Museum star “found their way back” to each other.
“I think that’s something people don’t really want to talk about because it feels like a failure.”
Taylor added that she felt the reason for their breakup was “because we didn’t see eye to eye on a lot of things.”
The couple announced their divorce in 2017 after 17 years of marriage.
Stiller and Taylor said in a joint statement at the time: “It is with great love and respect for each other that we have made the decision to separate after 18 years as a couple.”
“Our priority remains to raise our children as devoted parents and closest friends. We ask that the media please respect our privacy at this time.”
However, the breakup didn’t last long, as Stiller later admitted in a 2022 interview with Esquire that their romance had been rekindled.
“We’ve been apart and we’re back together again, and I’m happy about that. It’s really great for all of us. It was unexpected, but it’s one of those things that the pandemic brought about,” the actor told the outlet.
