Variety has reported that Tony Shalhoub will appear as a recurring guest star on CBS’ upcoming drama “Einstein.”

The role reunites Shalhoub with Andy Breckman, who developed “Einstein” from the German format and previously created the USA Network hit series “Monk,” in which Shalhoub starred for eight seasons, and the sequel TV movie “The Last Case of Mr. Monk.” Randy Zisk, executive producer and director of “Monk,” also serves as executive producer of “Einstein.”

Shalhoub joins previously announced “Einstein” cast members Matthew Gray Gubler, Melissa Fumero and Aounjanou Ellis-Taylor. The show’s official logline reads, “Albert Einstein’s brilliant but directionless great-grandson (Gubler) spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor until his juvenile antics land him in trouble with the law, and he ends up helping a local police detective (Fumero) solve the most baffling cases.”

Shalhoub will play Jack Einstein, the father of Gubler’s Louis Einstein.

This is not the first time Shalhoub has appeared on a CBS series. He previously had lead roles on the CBS shows “BrainDead” and “We Are Men.”

Shalhoub won three Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe Award for “Monk.” In television, she is also known for her work on the critically acclaimed Amazon series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, for which she won her fourth Emmy Award. His other television credits include “Wings,” but he is best known for starring in films such as the Pixar series “Cars,” “Galaxy Quest,” “Men in Black” and “Barton Fink.”

He is represented by CAA.

“Einstein” was originally scheduled to go to series in 2025, but was later postponed until the 2026-2027 broadcast season. It is currently scheduled to debut in midseason 2027 on CBS. As previously mentioned, Breckman developed the American version and serves as executive producer alongside Zisku, Michael Rauf, Tariq Jalil, Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibargengoitia, and Laura Beetz. Gubler not only stars in the film, but also serves as a producer. Produced by CBS Studios.
