Jacob Elordi thought the death of his Euphoria character Nate Jacobs was a “cool way to go.”
After the seventh episode of Season 3 aired on Sunday night, showing Jacobs dying from a snakebite while being buried alive, the actor quipped in the HBO segment after the show, “It’s cool to see it all turn out like this.”
The 28-year-old said his character was “someone who made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices.”
Regarding filming the coffin scene, Elordi said it was a “peaceful” experience.
“My shoulder hit my side and I couldn’t move my arm,” he recalled. “Then you drill the lid open and it’s pitch black. It was actually really nice. It was very peaceful inside.”
The snake that appeared was a real “boa constrictor with a fake rattle attached to the end.”
Elordi ultimately described the animal as “very cute” and “really cute”, although the animal’s sounds were “alarming” when it was “locked in a box”.
“He kind of snuggled up next to me, which was nice. But he was really sleepy. He was a sleepy snake. I had to nudge him to get him up and that was it.”
Among other things, creator Sam Levinson is someone who “wanted to shoot with a real snake,” he told Esquire over the weekend about giving Jacobs a “comeuppance” for fans.
“I know what the audience wants in terms of justice and karma, so I keep that in mind and always think, ‘How can I give it to them?'” he said. “How do you give them what they want, but make it so scary and anxiety-provoking that by the time it happens, the audience isn’t sure if that’s what they wanted?”
Elordi called his character’s gruesome death, and the resulting end of his time on the series, “bittersweet”.
The Golden Globe nominee said, “This show has been a big part of not only my career, but my life. It’s been amazing and I’m so proud to be a part of it.”
Elordi has been part of the show since season 1 aired in 2019, followed by season 2 in 2022.
The latest work debuted last month after a four-year hiatus.
Elordi was busy between seasons filming high-profile projects such as Frankenstein and Wuthering Heights.
Before Euphoria, he gained fame for playing Noah Flynn in three Kissing Booth movies with his then-girlfriend Joey King.
Elordi is currently dating Kendall Jenner and was recently spotted vacationing in Hawaii.
The Season 3 “Euphoria” finale premieres Sunday, March 31 at 9pm ET on HBO.
