India’s leading multiplex chain PVR Inox will be holding a week-long retrospective dedicated to director David Dhawan starting May 8th, screening five of his most famous Hindi comedies across 25 cities and 40 venues. The festival comes as Dhawan is preparing for the release of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which is said to be his last film as a director.

Dhawan is considered one of India’s finest filmmakers in the comedy genre. The line-up of ‘Aankhen’, ‘Raja Babu’, ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’, ‘Partner’ and ‘Main Tera Hero’ covers various chapters of a career spanning over four decades. Govinda was cast alongside Karisma Kapoor in ‘Raja Babu’. ‘Partner’ will see Govinda and Salman Khan co-star in a buddy comedy. ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’ stars Khan alongside Sushmita Sen and Katrina Kaif. Varun Dhawan will be seen in ‘Main Tera Hero’. And “Anken” shows the conceit of one person playing two roles.

Niharika Bijli, Principal Strategist, PVR Inox Ltd. At Inox, we believe strongly in the enduring power of the theatrical experience and in celebrating the achievements of filmmakers who have shaped India’s collective film culture. We are honored to host a festival dedicated to the outstanding legacy of David Dhawan. For decades, his films have defined mainstream Hindi entertainment and brought joy to generations of audiences. This festival is a unique opportunity for India. New audiences can rediscover some of his iconic films in their original format. ”

The event for the media and film industry will see David Dhawan in conversation with his son Varun Dhawan, one of Bollywood’s leading actors.

David Dhawan said, “I have always believed in making films that entertain people and make them forget the struggles of everyday life. My idea has always been simple: make people laugh, even for those three hours, and walk out of the theater happy with life and smiling. PVR It’s heartwarming to see Inox put together a festival around my work and bring these films back to the big screen. These films were made with so much love, energy and intuition, and I’m looking forward to seeing audiences return to theaters.” Relive the madness, music, and joy at the cinema once again. ”

PVR Inox operates 1,802 screens across 360 properties across 114 cities in India and Sri Lanka and was formed through the merger of PVR Limited and Inox Leisure Limited in 2023.
