“The Voice” alum Dylan Carter has died in a car accident in South Carolina, his family confirmed over the weekend. He was 24 years old.
“Our family is heartbroken to hear that Mr. Dylan Carter passed away in a car accident,” it said in a heartbreaking statement shared on Facebook on Sunday.
“As a talented singer, he frequently entertained our community with his performances at town events. His kindness and charm earned him great respect and his absence will be deeply felt.”
The statement continued: “We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Dylan’s loved ones and friends at this difficult time. The City of Moncks Corner, City Council and staff extend our deepest sympathies.”
At the end of the post, Carter’s family said that the late Carter was “more than an entertainer to our family, he was our friend” and that they were “deeply saddened” by his death.
Carter died Saturday in a car accident in Colleton County, South Carolina, according to multiple reports.
Other details about Carter’s death have not been released.
The singer was scheduled to perform at the Town of Monks Corner’s “Music on Main” event Monday night. However, the event was subsequently canceled.
The musician was just 20 years old when he wowed the judges on “The Voice” with his rendition of Whitney Houston’s 2009 hit “I Look to You.”
Carter’s performance, which was a tribute to his late mother, caused all four jurors to swivel in their chairs.
Carter ultimately chose Reba McEntire as his coach because he was a longtime fan of the country singer.
In addition to being a musician, Carter was also a real estate agent and co-owner of an RV park and campground in the Palmetto State.
