Film producer Fawzan Jidoni has been elected chairman of the Indonesian Film Board (BPI) for a four-year term, with the government-backed body set to attend its first international delegation at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Cinesuriya producer Jidni, who previously headed original production at Walt Disney Company Indonesia, has appointed Najira C. Nour as executive director and Yulia Evina Barra as head of international cooperation, with all three scheduled to attend Cannes in 2026.
“Indonesia is one of the few countries where cinema attendance has increased since the pandemic. With local films set to account for 67% of the market share by 2025, it is time to build an ecosystem to match this momentum. We will focus on expanding Indonesian films’ access to global markets through strategic festivals and international co-productions,” said Jidoni.
“BPI occupies a very important position as a bridge between the government and the film industry,” Indonesia’s Culture Minister Fadli Dzong said in a statement. “We hope that BPI will further strengthen Indonesia’s film ecosystem, promote transparent governance, and open up broader opportunities for creative talent across Indonesia.”
“We are actively looking for international partners, including studios, distributors and festival programmers, who want to co-produce and co-finance the region’s stories and present them to the world,” Zhidoni added.
Jidoni’s productions include This City Is a Battlefield, which premiered at the 2025 Rotterdam International Film Festival, and Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts, which premiered as an Indonesian Oscar-winning film at the 2017 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight. He also produced the 2013 Sundance premiere of “What They Don’t Talk About When They Talk About Love.” From 2022 to 2024, he served as Head of Original Production at Walt Disney Company Indonesia, where his team was credited with 12 original series and 10 development projects.
Mr. Noer is the CEO and co-founder of Poplicist, a film marketing and publicity company. The company’s annual schedule covers around 40-50 local titles such as ‘Jumbo’, ‘Agaq Lane’, ‘Pengabdi Setan 2’, ‘Siksa Kuboor’ and ‘Gandara’ from a total catalog of around 200. She is also the Chief Marketing Officer of Navvaros Entertainment and served as the Public Relations Committee Chair of the Indonesian Film Festival for seven years.
Barra, a producer at Kawan Kawan Media, was named one of the most influential international women in 2023 by Variety magazine. In 2025, he served as a juror at both the Cannes Critics’ Week and the 30th Busan International Film Festival. Her credits include “Autobiography,” which was submitted to the 2022 Venice to Indonesia Oscars. “Tiger Stripes” won the 2023 Cannes Critics Weekly Grand Prize. And “Renoir” will be exhibited at Cannes in 2025.
Established in 2014 under Indonesia’s Film Law, BPI is an independent agency tasked with advising the government on film policy, promoting international co-productions, and representing the Indonesian industry at festivals worldwide.
