Judy Greer recalled a time when her “Wedding Planner” co-star Matthew McConaughey was “so broke” that he had to pay a $20 valet fee.
“Before we started filming, we did a table read. We did it at the Roosevelt Hotel[in New York City]and I had valet parking in my car,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “I didn’t know any more.”
Realizing she “didn’t have enough money” to pay the bill, she headed to a payphone in the lobby and asked her friend Sean Gunn for financial help.
Luckily for her, McConaughey offered to help. .
“Matthew McConaughey heard my story and gave me $20,” she recalled with a laugh. “I was very disappointed, but at the same time I thought that he was my hero.”
The “13 Going on 30” star starred as Penny in the 2001 film alongside Jennifer Lopez and McConaughey.
Elsewhere in the interview, Grier couldn’t help but praise McConaughey and reflected on their time working together.
“What I remember from that movie is that[he]was so nice. I loved watching him do his hair and makeup every morning, because he was in his pajamas and he was wearing yerba mate,” Greer recalled.
“I haven’t worked with him since then, but I feel like not much has changed.”
“I had no idea how big of a deal it was going to be,” Greer told the magazine, reflecting on the iconic romantic comedy, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
When asked if he would be open to a reboot of the classic, Grier said he feels the original film has stood the test of time, but he’s open to revisiting the film.
“Yes, I think it’s going to be fun to see what people do with it because I love it, but at the same time, I think it’s great,” Grier told Entertainment Tonight. “Why do I keep restarting everything?”
Still, she added, she would say yes “as long as I can participate.”
