Paramount’s new heads Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein set movie agenda

Mike and Pam are no longer the only dynamic duo at CinemaCon.

Historically, movie studios have been run by one monolithic figure, directing filming and running large teams of middle managers and subordinates. Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg, who head Paramount Pictures, have become the second duo to run a legacy film business in a modern landscape (along with Mike De Luca and Pam Abdi at Warner Bros., where Paramount Skydance boss David Ellison is pursuing an acquisition).

Greenstein and Goldberg, who were formed eight months ago to run the storied label behind such classics as “The Godfather” and “Chinatown,” made their public debut Thursday at the annual Las Vegas movie theater owners convention.

The company has set a firm policy regarding theatrical movies. It comes after the company’s boss, Mr. Ellison, announced that the studio would offer movie theaters a 45-day period of exclusivity before Paramount Pictures moves to video-on-demand.

“From day one, we’ve worked hard to do our part, and that includes already showing 15 theatrical films in 2026, almost double the number from last year,” Goldberg said on stage at the Caesars Palace hotel and casino.

Director Greenstein pledged that the team is “committed to bringing you films from all genres, including ‘The High Side,’ starring Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold. This is one of many original films we’ll bring to your theaters. We’re also making a lot of big bets on originals, and we’re proud to be a place that supports filmmakers taking big things.”

But first, the IP. Leaders said multiple core franchises at Paramount are in active development, including Transformers, Star Trek, G.I. Joe and a sequel to the megahit Top Gun: Maverick.

Goldberg touted the return of “irreverent, outrageous R-rated comedies like ‘Scary Movie’ and the new ‘Jackass’ from Johnny Knoxville, Spike Jonze and Jeff Tremaine as part of the deal with Miramax.” She also appeared in Damien Chazelle’s new film starring Cillian Murphy, Daniel Craig and Michelle Williams. Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, based on the beloved best-selling novel, is directed by Sian Heder and stars Daisy Edgar-Jones.

Goldberg and Greenstein also expressed excitement about Teyana Taylor’s directorial debut, “Get Right,” comparing it to Paramount dance classics like “Flashdance” and “Footloose.”

Greenstein added, “What drives our optimism for this new era is the belief that Dana and I have in each other as a team. We have known and respected each other for over a decade. David mentioned several previous collaborations, but in fact, the first sign of things to come was our first meeting on ‘True Grit,’ which forged the working relationship that brings us here today.”
