Endgame re-release includes all-new footage ahead of ‘Doomsday’

Last year, Marvel Studios announced that “Avengers: Endgame” would be re-released in theaters ahead of the next superhero team-up movie, “Avengers: Doomsday” in December. It turns out that “Endgame” actually has more meaning than previously advertised.

During Walt Disney Studios’ presentation at CinemaCon on Thursday, directors Joe and Anthony Russo announced that the September 25 release will include new footage from the already three-hour film. Additionally, both Endgame and Doomsday, which hit theaters on December 18th, will also be shown in Infinity Vision, a new certification for premium wide-format theaters that is touted to offer moviegoers the “largest, brightest, most immersive movie experience.”

Is the label meant to evoke Marvel’s Infinity Stones or the synthezoid superhero Vision? Who says?

But it’s a seal of approval that premium large-format screenings from more than 75 domestic and 300 exhibitors worldwide are now available to consumers, and that these auditoriums meet certain technical standards, including “the largest screens for maximum scale, laser projection for superior brightness and clarity, and premium audio formats for fully immersive sound.”

“Disney’s production quality standards are second to none, and every detail of our films is finely tuned for an immersive experience,” said Andrew Cripps, head of theatrical distribution at Walt Disney Studios. “The Infinity Vision certification represents a joint effort between Walt Disney Studios and the exhibiting community to extend that commitment to the theater itself, enabling audiences to quickly find the best screen in their area and experience our films exactly the way they were intended to be viewed, on giant screens with the sharpest, most vivid colors and sound.”

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters on the same day as Warner Bros.’ Dune: Part III, and will be shown exclusively on IMAX for three weeks, the first time director Denis Villeneuve shot the film with the company’s cameras.
