“Ghost” fans who were disappointed that the show won’t be returning this fall can rest assured. The fix will be made during two important holidays. When announcing Wednesday that “Ghost” would not return until midseason, the network revealed that two special one-hour episodes were in the works.
In time for the mid-season premiere of the 22-episode sixth season, CBS has ordered a one-hour Halloween episode to air in October and an hour-long Ghostmas special around the Christmas holiday.
The decision to push back on “Ghosts” came as a bit of a surprise, as most experts expected CBS to pair it with “Eternally Yours,” a new series from “Ghost” executive producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman.
“I know that’s what everyone assumed,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach said Wednesday at a press conference announcing CBS’ fall schedule. “But ‘Georgie and Mandy’ is the number one comedy on the air. It’s a show about family. ‘Eternally Yours’ is also about family. We want to give our new show the best possible starting point. And we think this would be a really formidable combination. And that’s exactly where the decision came from.”
Showrunner and executive producer Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, the series also stars Rose McIver, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Brandon Scott Jones, Richie Moriarty, Daniel Pinnock, Asher Grodman, Roman Zaragoza, Sheila Carrasco, Rebecca Wysocki, and Devan Chandler Long.
CBS Studios produces “Ghost” in association with Lionsgate Television and BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions. In addition to Port and Wiseman, Richie Keene, Matthew Baynton, Jim Howick, Simon Farnaby, Laurence Rickard, Ben Willbond, Martha Howe-Douglas, Alison Carpenter, Debra Hayward, Alison Owen (Monumental Television), Angie Stevenson (BBC Studios), Josh Malmuth, John Brickstead and Trey Kolmer will also executive produce.
