Jio Studios and B62 Studios’ “Dhurandhar: The Revenge” has surpassed the first film’s lifetime collection by grossing more than 136.5 billion rupees ($147.8 million) worldwide in just 11 days, according to studio figures.
The first film, which grossed $141.5 million worldwide, was released in theaters on 500 screens from March 12th to 13th in an unusual overseas rerun prior to the release of the sequel.
Aditya Dhar’s spy action sequel has grossed $110.7 million at the Indian box office.
In North America, the film beat SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The End, which held the record with $20.2 million, while Dhurandhar: The Revenge crossed the $23 million mark. This achievement marks an important milestone for Hindi films in the region. In this region, the original “Durandal” built a huge fan base and came close to reaching the top spot during its theatrical release.
The sequel opened to $10 million from 987 venues over the weekend, raking in $14 million over a five-day extended run, setting a new standard for Bollywood cinema. Dar’s film surpassed the Hindi record held by Shah Rukh Khan’s Pattern in 2023, grossing $6.9 million in three days and $9.5 million in five days. The debut film fell just short of the all-time opening gross for an Indian film, held by Baahubali 2, which opened domestically in 2017 and grossed $10.4 million.
The film holds the number one spot among Indian films in all international territories except the UK, where it grossed 3.4 million pounds ($4.4 million), trailing second place “Pasaan” with 4.3 million pounds ($5.6 million). In international markets, more than 80% of screens are showing the movie into its second week. The “Dhulandhar” movie has not yet been released in China, where Aamir Khan’s “Dangal” is India’s all-time box office champion with $192 million.
In Australia, the film grossed more than A$6 million ($4.1 million) and in Germany, it grossed more than $1 million.
The film had the widest overseas release of any Hindi film, with approximately 2,200 theaters and 3,000 screens outside the Gulf region, expanding into non-traditional markets such as Finland, Uruguay, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Chile, Mexico and Cyprus.
Ranveer Singh stars in a dual avatar, with R Madhavan playing the role of Ajay Sanyal, Arjun Rampal playing the role of ISI Major Iqbal, Sanjay Dutt and Sara Arjun playing the role of SP Chaudhary Aslam.
