Amy Duggar tearfully reacted Friday to the news that her cousin Joseph Duggar’s wife, Kendra, had been arrested.
A visibly emotional Amy, 39, told her followers in a video shared to her Instagram Stories: “I don’t know what’s going on. The local news is saying there are more incidents and more arrests.”
“I don’t know. I just thought everyone should know that there’s more to this story. But I don’t know what it is.”
A few hours later, Amy posted a photo of the black screen on her Stories. She neglected to explain further.
Kendra was arrested in Arkansas on Friday, days after her husband was arrested in Florida on suspicion of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl.
The two were charged with four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment.
Kendra was taken to the Washington County Jail, where Joseph is currently being held. However, the mother of four was released hours after her arrest.
In Florida, Joseph is also charged with lewd and lascivious acts with a victim under 12 years of age and lewd and lascivious acts with a person over 18 years of age.
Police previously confirmed that the charges in Arkansas were unrelated to Joseph’s case in Florida.
Following Joseph’s arrest, Amy previously told People magazine in a statement that she was “sickened” and “deeply angry” by the situation.
“My first thoughts are for the victim. This child deserved to be safe, protected, and surrounded by people she could trust,” she said in a statement.
“The courage it took for her to come forward, especially after years of carrying heavy weights, cannot be overstated. That courage is to be commended above all else.”
She added: “I am not surprised that another alleged predator has emerged from this toxic system.”
Joseph’s brother Josh, who is serving a 12-year sentence in 2021 for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material, said on Thursday following news of Joseph’s arrest that the allegations were “false.”
Joseph’s sister, Jill Duggar, and her husband, Derick Dillard, said in a blog post Thursday that they were “shocked” by Joseph’s arrest, but emphasized that they support the victim and “strongly condemn abuse.”
