As Olivia Rodrigo prepares to release her third album, the singer has given her first major interview about the project, telling British Vogue that it will be filled with “sad love songs”. She avoided giving any updates on the status of her relationship with Louis Partridge, instead choosing to let her music speak for itself. But she talked about her bond with Sabrina Carpenter years after the “Driver’s License” drama and the realities of dating as a celebrity.
More than a year after a video of Carpenter and Rodrigo hugging at the 2025 Grammy Awards went viral, Rodrigo revealed that the two are very supportive of each other. “I think she’s great,” she said. “I’m very happy for her success too. I love the album she put out.” She admitted of their relationship, “People just think it’s weird and clickbait. But it’s all love. I’ve talked to her a lot.”
Rodrigo spoke candidly about his dating experiences since becoming famous as a teenager. When asked if she was thinking of getting married, the 23-year-old star replied, “Oh my god, it’s definitely far away!”
She added, “I want young girls to know that life is full of so much joy independent of husbands and kids. But, yeah… That being said, I want to be a mom more than anything. I feel like I’ve already done a lot of what I wanted to do in my career and I feel like I’m more mature for my age. So I don’t know…”
She admitted that dating after becoming famous had its challenges, saying, “I felt like I didn’t meet people by chance. I work in the studio with producers all day…I was precocious when it came to work and took on a lot of responsibilities[early on]. But when it comes to things like dating, I’m still really young and learning.”
She revealed that she tried Raya for a month after releasing Sour, but quit after one date. “I thought, ‘Wow, I can never do this again. It was really bad,'” she recalls. “I didn’t even see any cool people! Oh, I thought I’d meet some really hot actors. I don’t know any of those people…[It’s always]some weird ‘creative director.'” Well, you don’t have a job. ”
From there, she decided to slip into people’s DMs “sometimes,” she admitted, adding, “I had a pretty high success rate back then… But what does success mean? Going on dates? Absolutely. Were they good? No! I get so sick of thinking about my younger self’s dates. I just want to have a shoulder to hold. I’m like, ‘Girl, what? What are you doing?!'”
She added that she doesn’t really like situationships, and says of herself, “I’m definitely a lover’s girl. I want to commit to something and so be in love. And yeah, it’s hard these days.”
