Zendaya is back on the red carpet and back in the archives.
The “Euphoria” actress arrived at the Essence Hollywood Black Women Awards on Thursday in a familiar statement mini, opting for a white floral look previously worn by Whitney Houston.
The asymmetrical Eugene Alexander design, with oversized golden floral embellishments on the shoulders, was adapted from one worn by the late singer in a 1987 promotional photoshoot that later appeared on the cover of Life magazine.
Houston’s version originally included two flowers and a longer hemline, but Sarah Jessica Parker later wore Zendaya’s version during the opening credits of the 2008 film “Sex and the City.” The new style features a single giant hibiscus flower and a shorter skirt.
Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, posted both Houston and Bradshaw on X, teasing their looks. After appearing on the red carpet, Z posted a video with the caption, “An iconic piece of fashion history from today’s Hollywood Essence Women.”
Roach is known for his ability to score highly sought after vintage clothing with an A-list past. He recently dressed Ariana Grande in Carol Burnett’s first gown and styled Zendaya in an impressive array of archives.
Her latest all-white look is perhaps a sign of what’s to come as Zendaya promotes her upcoming film, The Drama, in which she gets engaged to Robert Pattinson. Meanwhile, in real life, Roach claimed at the SAG Actor Awards earlier this month that she is already married to fiancé Tom Holland.
Perhaps confirming this news, Zendaya was spotted wearing a gold band on Jessica McCormack’s finger, rather than her engagement ring.
