Travis Kelce will return to the Kansas City Chiefs and play another season. He spoke on The Pat McAfee Show about how Taylor Swift influenced his decision not to retire just yet. He praised her career and talked about how it motivated him as he considered his own professional future.
Travis Kelce has signed a contract to play one more season with the Kansas City Chiefs after weeks of speculation that the 36-year-old tight end would retire. He confirmed the news on New Heights’ Instagram account and spoke about how he came to this decision on The Pat McAfee Show earlier today. As it turns out, his fiancée Taylor Swift was a big factor and inspiration.
“Absolutely, definitely (seeing her at the top of the field) motivates me to keep playing,” he told the host. “We share the same love for our work and, fortunately, we have had this desire since childhood in our elective professions.”
Pointing to her music career, he said, “It’s really great to see her keep coming to the table. She keeps finding new things to write. She keeps finding new melodies and things like that. On top of that, seeing that she has love and joy in what she does, of course, that’s motivating. That’s motivating for anyone. Even more so for[me]to look at my fiancé and know that he’s going through something that I’m trying to figure out exactly.” That’s what motivates me to say, “You know we’re not done yet, but we still have ideas for how to play this game.”
Last year, Kelce talked about how much Swift supported him in continuing his soccer career as he considered retiring for the 2025-2026 season.
“She totally encourages me to enjoy this game,” he said on The Stephen A. Smith Show in January 2025. “She loves coming to Arrowhead (Stadium) and coming to the games and cheering me on, so I have all the support from around the world to keep chasing my dreams.”
