‘Squid Game’ has given celebrities the green light for a new reality competition spin-off titled ‘The VIP Challenge’.
According to Netflix, the new version “joins eight VIPs in a high-stakes game that puts their wits, strategies, and skill sets to the ultimate test.”
Contestants include Dylan Efron (The Traitors), Hannah Godwin (The Bachelor), Kim Zolciak (The Real Housewives of Atlanta), content creator Christy Sara, Spice Girls singer Mel B, Ryan Serhant (Owning Manhattan), NBA champion Tristan Thompson and Viper (fan-voted winner of The Squid Game: The Challenge).
“Squid Game: The Challenge” was released in November 2023 following the huge success of the Korean drama “Squid Game,” about people down on their luck who are forced to participate in a deadly race for money, a sinister twist on a children’s game. The real-life spin-off pitted 456 real competitors against each other for $4.56 million. A second season began in 2025, and the show was renewed for a third season.
Additional information about “Squid Game: The VIP Challenge” has not yet been revealed by Netflix. The Vipers said in a statement that they intend to cause “complete chaos” when they return to play. “I learned that each decision should be considered in great detail,” he said. “I always use a microscope to make any choice.”
Reflecting on the first season of The Challenge, Alison Herman, Variety’s chief television critic, wrote, “The point of The Squid Game, like Battle Royale and The Hunger Games before it, is that entertainment comes at a high moral cost in a deeply unequal society. The point of The Challenge is that if you watch it without thinking too much about it, it’s still pretty fun to watch.”
