Paramount Pictures has released the trailer for the latest installment of the “Scary Movie” series.
Scary Movie 6 reunites the Wayans brothers, Marlon, Sean and Keenen for the first time in 18 years, to write a new installment of the horror parody series. This is the first movie in the comedy series since 2013’s Scary Movie 5. The brothers will also produce with Rick Alvarez, and Michael Tiddes will direct.
The trailer parodied many popular horror films from the past few years, including recent hits like “Sinners,” “Weapons,” “The Substance” and Netflix’s “Wednesday.” It begins with a parody of the Ghostface subway scene from “Scream 6” with a number of costumed characters, including “Megan,” a dancing robot killer. Marlon and Sean Wayans reunite with Regina Hall and Anna Faris to take on Ghostface, but mostly to poke fun at the likes of “Get Out,” “Smile,” “The Terrifier,” and “Longlegs.”
Other “Scary Movie” cast members include Lochlyn Monroe, Dave Sheridan, John Abrahams, Sheri Oteri, and Chris Elliott. Newcomers to the satirical series include the brothers’ nephew Damon Wayans Jr., sister Kim Wayans, “SNL” alum Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Savannah Lee Nassif, Cameron Scott Roberts, Sydney Park, Greg Wayans, Ruby Snover and Benny Zielke.
The original “Scary Movie,” released in 2000, was one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror films of all time. The film’s opening gross was $42.5 million, making it the highest debut for an R-rated horror film and a black director at the time. The Wayans Brothers developed the “Scary Movies” film series, and Keenen wrote and directed the first two films. Marlon and Sean wrote and starred in the first two films.
Miramax will produce, with Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy and Tom Zadra serving as executive producers. As part of a first-look deal with Miramax, Paramount Pictures will release the horror film worldwide on June 12th.
