Martin Short’s daughter Catherine celebrated her 40th birthday on her last public appearance before his tragic death.
The 42-year-old was photographed outside the Grand Master Recorders eatery in Hollywood, California on October 12, 2023.
She wore a knit dress and a “birthday girl” headband for the special outing.
Duchess Kate also appeared to be carrying several takeaway bags and another tote bag.
Another photo showed Short, 75, talking on the phone outside the restaurant.
Other attendees included the late Catherine O’Hara, Goldie Hawn, Beau Welch, Joni Mitchell and Julian Phillips.
The social worker died on Monday in an apparent suicide.
“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” a representative for the Short family told Page Six.
“The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was loved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought to the world.”
According to a report from TMZ, Katherine was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in her Hollywood Hills, California mansion.
The Los Angeles Fire Department told Page Six they responded to reports of shots fired at the address around 6:40 p.m.
Catherine previously revealed on her now-deleted website that she had a service dog to help treat her “mental illness.”
In her bio, she revealed that she named her dog after singer Joni Mitchell, writing, “Joni has been my amazing service dog and has helped me battle my own mental illness for the past five years.”
“Joni is often with me in the office and cuddling in bed,” Katherine added. “She’s a really sweet person and just loves people, so don’t be surprised if she greets you with a smile, a wag of her tail…and maybe even a kiss.”
Katherine worked as a social worker in a private practice specializing in mental disorders, anxiety, and borderline personality disorder.
Short and his late wife Nancy Dolman, who died of cancer in 2010, adopted Katherine along with their sons Oliver Patrick, 39, and Henry Hayter, 36.
