It’s leather weather for the First Lady.
Melania Trump celebrated the donation of her second inaugural gown to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History on Friday in an all-black outfit that coordinated with her historic dress.
FLOTUS spoke at the gown unveiling wearing a Bottega Veneta double-breasted coat ($4,300), a knit turtleneck, leather leggings, and knee-length Christian Louboutin boots with snakeskin embossment.
“This is not a dress. This is more than 50 years of education, experience, and wisdom realized in every thread, every stitch, every sharp edge,” Trump told the crowd about the Hervé Pierre design, which features strapless off-white silk crepe columns with two bands of black silk gazar.
“This dress expresses a unique perspective, a modern silhouette: bold, regal, and relentlessly chic.”
She thanked the patternmakers, seamstresses and artisans who helped make this “technical marvel” a reality, adding: “This black-and-white masterpiece demonstrates America’s spirit of pure ingenuity, engineering excellence and boundless creativity. It shows why the American fashion industry can lead the world.”
In addition to the gown, a replica of Trump’s 1955 Harry Winston brooch, which was used as a choker at the inaugural ball, will also be on display at the Smithsonian Institution.
“A minimalist black neckpiece frames a sparkling floral diamond cluster, creating harmony with my overall look,” she said in her speech.
President Trump previously donated the dress he wore to the 2017 Inaugural Ball, also designed by Pierre, an off-the-shoulder vanilla silk crepe with a slit skirt, ruffled trim, and a red bow at the waist.
