Late Friday night, police announced that Nancy Guthrie’s neighbor’s home in Arizona was being searched in connection with her disappearance. Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, has been missing for nearly two weeks.
“Law enforcement activity is ongoing at a residence near E Orange Grove Road & N First Avenue in connection with the Guthrie incident,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement regarding the X. “As this is a joint investigation at the request of the FBI, no additional information is available at this time.”
The house is located in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood, a short drive from Nancy’s residence and that of her eldest daughter Annie and her husband, according to the New York Times. The newspaper said a gray Range Rover was also being investigated at nearby Culver’s, but it was unclear if it was related to Guthrie. Investigators photographed something inside the trunk of the car, which was then taken away by a tow truck from the scene.
On Thursday, the FBI announced it was increasing its reward to $100,000 for information that helps locate Nancy Guthrie or leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance.
According to an FBI Phoenix Office post on X, the agency also shared additional identifying information about the would-be kidnapper, describing the suspect as “a male of average build, approximately 5’9″ to 5’10” tall. He is seen in the video carrying a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack.
Earlier in the week, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department told ABC News that a person was in custody for questioning in connection with the incident and that investigators were preparing to search locations associated with the person. This person was later released.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1st, and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department declared her disappearance a crime on February 2nd.
“We saw some things at the home that were concerning to us,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters at the time. “Now that we have processed that crime scene, we believe there is an actual crime scene, an actual crime occurred, and we are asking for the community’s assistance.”
Since her mother disappeared, Savannah Guthrie has posted several videos on social media calling out her kidnappers and asking the community for help in the search.
“That’s why I come just to ask for prayers. No matter where you are, even if you’re far from Tuscon,” she said in a Feb. 9 video message, adding, “If you see anything, hear anything, anything that seems odd in the slightest, please call law enforcement. We are in a desperate situation and we need your help.”
