Atreus has appeared in Amazon Prime Video’s “God of War” series.
Callum Vinson has been cast as the young god, and will play Kratos, Atreus’ father, opposite Ryan Hurst. Additional cast members include Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Dari Olafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, and Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gurka as the brothers Bullock and Sindri.
As previously reported, the series will feature stories from the two most recent God of War games. In the game, Kratos must raise his 10-year-old son Atreus while battling Norse gods. According to the logline, “Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to scatter the ashes of his wife and mother Faye. Throughout their adventure, Kratos attempts to teach his son to be a better god, and Atreus attempts to teach his father how to be a better man.”
Atreus is further described as “the 10-year-old son of Kratos, isolated from the rest of the world in a secluded forest cabin and raised almost entirely by his mother Faye. He is a skilled archer, has an affinity for animals, and has a deep curiosity about what lies beyond the confines of his forest home.” After his mother’s death, Atreus is left with a cold, distant father who he barely knows and who he knows little about. Despite this, Atreus longs for his father’s approval and is desperate to prove he is strong enough to survive in a harsh and dangerous world.
Vinson previously starred in the Amazon series “Dead Ringers” and has appeared on hit shows such as Peacock’s “Long Bright River” and “Poker Face” and CBS’ “FBI: International.” Next, he will appear as Jason Voorhees in the third season of the Netflix series “The Night Agent” and Peacock’s “Friday the 13th” prequel “Crystal Lake.”
He is repped by Rebel Creative Group and Innovative Artists.
Two seasons of “God of War” have been ordered on Amazon, and pre-production is currently underway in Vancouver. Ronald D. Moore is the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of God of War, which is owned by Tall Ship Productions.
