Security camera footage from the night Savannah Guthrie’s mother Nancy went missing has not been recovered because she did not pay for the subscription service.
At a news conference Thursday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Guthrie’s doorbell camera was disconnected around 1:47 a.m. Sunday.
“At 2:12 a.m. local time, the software detected a person on camera, but there was no video available. Since they did not have a subscription, the software would have been automatically rewritten,” he said.
“It’s kind of like a loop and cover-up. That’s what our analytics team told us,” Nanos added. “Was it an animal? I think it’s possible. We don’t know. We just don’t have the video.”
Investigators have “exhausted (all) options to recover video” from Guthrie’s home, the sheriff’s office said.
Nancy’s pacemaker device was disconnected from the phone app around 2:28 a.m.
The 84-year-old matriarch did not attend church on Sunday morning, so family members checked on her around 11:56 a.m.
Police were called to the Arizona home at 12:03 p.m. and arrived at 12:15 p.m. A blood stain was found outside Nancy’s home, and police confirmed Thursday that it was Nancy’s.
FBI Phoenix Special Agent Heis Janke said in a press conference that investigators are currently investigating the ransom note, which demands unspecified details by 5 p.m. local time.
“And if the transfer does not take place, the second request will be next Monday,” he shared. “I have no intention of going beyond that.”
However, Janke noted that the note included references to an Apple Watch and a floodlight, and explained that “any action on the ransom will ultimately be decided by the family.”
Two news stations, including TMZ, received ransom notes with a threatening message: “Or else.”
According to TMZ, their memo demanded millions of dollars in Bitcoin.
The FBI also offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to finding Nancy or “the arrest and conviction of any person involved in her disappearance.”
Officers are “actively investigating all” suspects, but have not named anyone.
