Kate Middleton, who had cancer, recalled the “moments of fear and exhaustion” she faced before going into remission.
The Princess of Wales took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a heartwarming video of her visiting a cancer patient.
“On World Cancer Day, we think of those who have been diagnosed with cancer, are undergoing treatment, and are finding a path to recovery,” she said in a voiceover.
“Cancer affects so many lives, not just the patient, but their family, friends and caregivers who walk by their side,” Middleton, 44, continued.
“As anyone who has been through this journey can tell you, it is not linear. There are moments of fear and exhaustion. But there are also moments of strength, kindness, and deep connection.”
She urged those affected by cancer to remember “the importance of care, understanding and hope”, adding: “Please know that you are not alone.”
Middleton announced in March 2024 that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment.
In September of the same year, the royal family revealed that she had completed “incredibly grueling” chemotherapy, and announced four months later that she was in remission.
At that time, she returned to her royal duties and announced her new role as co-patron of Royal Marsde.
“My hope is that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, and promoting the well-being of patients and families, we can save more lives and change the experience of everyone living with cancer,” Middleton wrote on Instagram in January 2025.
Middleton slowly returned to the spotlight in 2025, making several public appearances including the Royal Garden Party, Trooping the Color, and Wimbledon that year.
Meanwhile, Prince William appeared in Eugene Levy’s “The Reluctant Traveler” in October and reflected on his wife’s battle with cancer.
At the time, the 43-year-old Prince of Wales admitted he never thought cancer would be in his family, saying: “But when you do get cancer, you’re in a pretty bad place.”
But for now, “everything is moving in the right direction,” he said.
The couple have three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.
