Emily Longeretta has been promoted to feature director in Variety magazine’s Focus editorial department.
Mr. Longeretta will oversee all features and new business development for Focus, including sponsored editorial as well as a wide range of other subjects such as festivals, FYC coverage, impact lists, lifestyle, travel, industry anniversaries, milestones and pop culture coverage. In leading the Focus division, she will work closely with Carol Horst, Focus’ deputy editor and one of Variety’s longest-serving staffers.
With this promotion, Mr. Longeretta will report to Ramin Setoudeh, Variety’s co-president and co-editor-in-chief, and Cynthia Littleton, co-editor-in-chief.
“In her four years at Variety, Emily Longeretta has proven herself to be a thoughtful and driven editor with her finger on the cultural pulse,” said Setude. “We are excited that she will be driving the development of our award-winning magazine features and long-form articles in her new role.”
Mr. Littleton praised Longeretta as a true team player who is well known and popular in the industry. “Emily is a respected voice in entertainment journalism. She has an unbridled appetite for entertainment and pop culture. Her love for television, film, music and other areas covered by Variety is always evident in her work,” Littleton said.
Longeretta joined Variety in January 2022 as senior TV features editor after four years at Us Weekly and was promoted to senior entertainment editor. At Variety, she quickly assumed responsibility for overseeing TV-related FYC coverage and numerous other features. She has overseen the production of 14 extras each year during Emmy season. She has also directed other editorial series such as Reality TV Impact Report, Women in Reality TV, and TV Producer Impact Report.
Longeretta is the co-host of Variety’s podcast “Awards Circuit,” where he analyzes race and film and television awards season nominees. She frequently hosts conversations at festivals across the country and has appeared extensively in local and national media as a reporter and commentator on entertainment news and trends. She hosts a regular weekly entertainment news segment on CBS Los Angeles (KCAL-TV).
