President Donald Trump says he plans to call Savannah Guthrie as her mother, Nancy Guthrie, goes missing. He also provided federal assistance in the Arizona law enforcement search.
“I think it’s terrible,” President Trump, 79, told reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday, February 3, when asked about the situation.
“I’m going to call her later,” the president continued. “It’s terrible. I’ve always been good friends with Savannah. It’s a very unusual situation, but we’ll figure it out…”
The White House also shared information about Nancy’s disappearance on Instagram.
“The search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, continues and authorities are asking the public for assistance,” the government wrote. “If you have any information please contact 911. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Guthrie’s family as Nancy returns home safely. 🙏”
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD), 84-year-old Nancy was last seen at her Arizona home around 9:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, January 31st. She was reported missing at 11 a.m. the next day, and an emergency search began.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said of the Guthrie family in an interview with PEOPLE on Monday, Feb. 2, that they are “devastated, as is everyone. They are a family and they depend on each other.” Nanos said officials are “just in touch with them and know that this community supports them as well.”

Namos said at a news conference that day that authorities are treating Nancy’s home as a “crime scene” and asked anyone who knows anything about her disappearance to contact authorities or call 911.
“We don’t need another tragic ending. We need help,” Nanos said.
“This woman is an 84-year-old woman who has some physical ailments, some physical problems, and requires medication, which can be fatal if not taken within 24 hours,” he continued, later adding that Nancy “didn’t leave on her own.”
On Tuesday, Nanos said investigators still do not know Nancy’s whereabouts and it is unclear how many people were involved in her abduction.

“On behalf of my family, I want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” Guthrie, 54, said in a statement read on Monday’s Today show. “Right now, our focus is on the safe return of our beloved mother.”
“We appreciate the hard work of law enforcement on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900,” she said.
