What you need to know
Brittney Greiner is opening up about her experience as a mother.
The 35-year-old WNBA star, who welcomed son Bash with wife Sherrell in July 2024, spoke exclusively with PEOPLE about raising his son on Tuesday, January 27, at the premiere of The Britney Griner Story at the Sundance Film Festival. Britney tells PEOPLE that watching her son grow up has been “so rewarding.”
“Oh my god. It’s tough. I get why everyone says goodbye to sleep, especially in the early days. But it’s so rewarding. When I get home, (and) he’s smiling, that makes my day so much better,” she says.

Britney and Sherrell met several years ago while students at Baylor University and married in June 2019. About five years later, we shared the exciting news of expanding our family, and soon after, our son joined us.
“They said that as soon as you meet them, everything you thought was important goes out the window,” Britney told CBS Sports about meeting her son for the first time. “That’s literally what happened.”
Back in November 2024, just days before Thanksgiving, the couple shared their first photos from the bash.
“Family filming is a team effort around here,” Sherrell told CBS Morning. “It’s been a series of smiles, tears, meals, and naps. We’ve loved every minute of it and can’t wait to take our first Christmas photos as a family.”
The photo showed the proud parents holding their baby boy, dressed in a small skeleton costume, with a hunter green nursery in the background.
“Bash might have the best room in the house,” Britney wrote when she shared the same photo on Instagram the next day. “Both Rel and I fall asleep in that chair with Bash at night. We love every detail, from his amazing book wall collection to his comfy crib! He sleeps like a big man in his room all by himself.”

At a press conference in June 2025, Bash made his post-game debut, sitting on Britney’s lap and playing with his Hot Wheels car. When asked what motivates her, she says, of course, it’s her son.
“He’s my reason,” Britney said. “Honestly, I was starting to wonder what my reason was. And then he came along and, yeah, he’s my reason.”
she continued. “Everything I’m doing is for him. Once he really figures everything out, I’ll be proud of him. … I’m doing it for him, so I want to give him what he needs and show him the right way to do things.”
