Indox, the nonfiction film festival agency led by Luke Brawley, has acquired worldwide festival rights to filmmaker Pete Muller’s feature documentary debut Bucks Harbor. The film will have its world premiere in the Panorama section of the 76th Berlin Film Festival.

Bucks Harbor is a “portrait of coastal Maine masculinity, workforce and community,” the statement said. “Exploring a town life shaped by harsh winters, generations of fishing traditions, and rigid cultural expectations of masculinity, the film depicts how men come of age through intimate observational footage against the unforgiving backdrop of lower eastern Maine, where physical strength and the ability to endure are intertwined with the very definition of worth.”

“‘Bucks Harbor’ is a beautifully observed, deeply human film and the kind of documentary that stays with you long after the credits have finished,” Brawley said. “Pete Muller brings an extraordinary sensitivity to a community that is rarely seen with this level of intimacy. We are thrilled to partner on this film festival journey, starting with such a meaningful world premiere at the Berlinale.”

The editor is Noel Paul. Cinematographers: Nathan Goron and Mueller. The original score is by Nikolai Hess.

The producers are Muller, Goron, and Paul. Executive producers are Caitlin Yarnall and Greg Moga. Co-producers are Jake Patlin and Morgan Patlin.

Muller is an American visual artist and documentarian who, according to his biography, “uses photography, film, and other media to investigate issues related to masculinity, conflict, and human ecology.”

She has been a National Geographic Society Storytelling Fellow since 2017. From 2005 to 2020, he was based in the Middle East and Africa, investigating the dynamics of conflict in postcolonial states.

He has received top awards from World Press Photo, Pictures of the Year International, Overseas Press Club, TIME Magazine, and more.

In 2022, he won an Emmy Award for Best Documentary for his role as co-producer of “The First Wave.”

His photographic work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in London, New York City, Geneva, Cape Town and elsewhere. Mueller was the Cyrus Vance Visiting Professor of International Relations at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.

Brawley was previously festival manager at non-fiction specialist Dogwoof.
