Super Bowl trailers include ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’, ‘Disclosure Day’

‘Star Wars’ star Steven Spielberg and the Minions are gearing up for the big game as Hollywood uses the Super Bowl to promote some of its anticipated blockbusters.

Disney is expected to release a trailer for “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” the first theatrical “Star Wars” movie since 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” It’s also possible that the company will release a spot on “Toy Story 5,” one of the studio’s summer releases. However, no trailers will be released for “Avengers: Doomsday” or Marvel’s other new superhero adventure, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” In fact, Sony, which is releasing a Spider-Man movie, will join Netflix, Apple and Amazon/MGM in skipping the Super Bowl altogether, according to people familiar with the studio’s plans.

Warner Bros. typically doesn’t spend a lot of money on the Super Bowl and isn’t expected to have a large presence during the game. But DC Studios will tease “Supergirl” at Puppy Bowl, which will air on Animal Planet, a television network owned by parent company Warner Bros. Discovery. I love that synergy!

Although nothing can match the Super Bowl’s audience, studios may face some degree of shock when buying advertising. These promotions require high spending, with NBC seeking $7 million to more than $10 million for 30 seconds of ad time.

That hasn’t stopped Universal, which, like NBC, is owned by Comcast. The studio will also screen trailers for Spielberg’s alien invasion thriller “Disclosure Day,” as well as “Super Mario Galaxy Movie” and “Minions 3.” However, no new material will be introduced in Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey, which Universal is currently producing.

Paramount, which was recently acquired by David Ellison’s deep-pocketed Skydance company, plans to release a trailer for “Scream 7” during the Gridron Festival.

And Lionsgate may use NBC’s hours of pregame coverage to promote its upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, “Michael.” This seems like a no-brainer considering the King of Pop’s Super Bowl halftime performance at the 1993 Super Bowl is considered one of the best of all time.
