Popular culture veteran John Rambo returns to our screens, this time played by Noah Centineo (Street Fighter). The first part of the origin story began production this week in Bangkok, Thailand, with support from Lionsgate, Millennium Media, Templeton Media and AGBO.
“John Rambo” is set several years before the events of “First Blood” (1982) and explores the backstory and experiences of Sylvester Stallone’s action hero John J. Rambo.
Directed by “The Sith” helmer Jalmali Helander, “John Rambo” stars Yao (“Sinners”), Jason Tobin (“A Thousand Blows”), Quincy Isaiah (“Winning Time”), Jefferson White (“Yellowstone”) and Tammy Tuptimthong (“The White Lotus”).
In a director’s statement, Helander said, “When I first saw First Blood when I was 11 years old, it changed my life. For me, Rambo was more than just a movie. It stayed with me as I grew up and had a decisive influence on why I wanted to become a director.” “We’re going back to our roots as we begin to build on the roots of John Rambo. This is a stripped-down, authentic Rambo, a survival story about perseverance, perseverance, and perseverance.” Lost Innocence, we are honored to shape this next chapter with deep respect for this character and legacy, and to bring audiences the beginning of John Rambo’s journey. ”
“We’re thrilled to begin production on ‘John Rambo,’ which will allow both new audiences and existing fans to explore the roots of John Rambo, his ideals and, most importantly, the great action of Djalmali’s singular vision,” said Erin Westerman, president of Lionsgate Film Group. “And we’re thrilled about Noah’s dedicated and powerful performance, which exemplifies what made this character a legend.”
Filming will take place across Thailand, including Bangkok, Krabi, Phang Nga and Kanchanaburi.
The film was written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani and produced by Kevin King Templeton and Les Weldon, Jonathan Junger of Millennium Media, and Michael Disco and Angela Russo-Otstott of AGBO. Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, Millennium Media’s Trevor Short, and Bonfire Legends’ Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmic will serve as executive producers. The film will be distributed by Lionsgate.
