Bill Maher told the new California Post that Hollywood celebrities need to “shut up” when it comes to politics if Democrats are to have any shot at taking back the White House in future elections.
“Hollywood is in some ways the epicenter of the woke left. I don’t think they’re doing the Democrats any favors,” the “Real Time” host said. “If Democrats want to win elections in the future, I think the first thing they should do is tell celebrities, ‘Shut up. You guys aren’t helping. You don’t think most people in this country are sensible or aware of reality.'”
Maher has often been outspoken against the Hollywood left, and has previously blamed them for the industry’s continued loss of awards. Maher’s “Club Random” was nominated for Best Podcast at this year’s Golden Globes, but lost to Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang.” Before the ceremony, Maher predicted he would lose.
“Sweetheart, I’ve been nominated for an Emmy 33 times, but they would never give it to me,” Maher told guests. “This is not a joke number. It’s a real number. It’s crazy… (because of) everything I said. I speak freely and the woke town hates it. And that’s okay. I’ve made peace with it. So you know how this goes. This is something I’ll never be able to do…I have a good standing. If I were to win this by some miracle, people would say, ‘I can’t believe it, I’m shocked.’ It would be a real shock. ”
HBO recently renewed “Real Time with Bill Maher” for two more seasons, extending the political talk series on HBO until 2028. The show returned for the season 24 premiere on January 23rd. Maher has been the host of “Real Time” since 2003.
