Natasha Lyonne spoke to X on Friday and revealed that she had relapsed. The “Poker Face” star struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol throughout the 2000s.
“My relapse will become even more public in the future,” she wrote Friday night. In a follow-up post hours later, she added: “Recovery is a lifelong process. To anyone who is suffering, please remember that you are not alone. Thank you for the love and smart feet. We’ll do it for baby Bumbo. Stay honest, everyone. I’m sick like our secret. No one today I love you even if you didn’t say it. No matter how low we hit, let’s see how our experience can help others. Hold on, kids. Don’t quit before the miracle. With love. All rest is noise and foolishness. ”
“Baby Bumbo” is a reference to Lyon’s new film about a New York boxing promoter struggling to balance his duties as a father and his career. Lyon is the writer and director of the film titled ‘Bumbo’.
In response to fans who supported her openness, Rion wrote, “We need a better system and to eliminate shame and charge for things like socks and stilettos, but please don’t judge me for being honest.”
Lyon spoke about her addiction in a 2012 interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying that at the time she was “wary” of publicly admitting she had a substance abuse problem.
“It’s weird to talk about. I was definitely as good as dead, right? There are a lot of people who don’t come back,” Lyon said. “It made me feel guarded and self-conscious. I don’t want to be proud of it. People really rallied around me and pulled me up in my own fucking power.”
