A lawsuit brought by wedding planners who were fired after Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s disastrous wedding has exposed an apparent feud between the Peltz family and Victoria Beckham.
Documents in a 2023 lawsuit surrounding the model’s April 2022 wedding in Florida say the Beckhams had a guest list “nearly ready and fully organized, with all contact information fully corrected,” while the Peltz family’s list was incomplete and missing addresses.
“Nicola continued to send text messages (in the group chat) adding and removing specific guests. This made the task of creating a comprehensive and complete guest list a moving target,” the document states.
Meanwhile, the Peltz family – including Nicola’s billionaire father Nelson and mother Claudia – were apparently concerned about making sure the Beckhams were unaware of the problem.
“Claudia and Nicola both claimed that Victoria Beckham had no way of knowing about any internal errors in the ongoing planning of her son’s wedding, including errors in the guest list,” the complaint said.
Plan Design Events (PDE) wedding planners Nicole Bragin and Ariana Grijalva, who were called to a wedding just six weeks before the event and called off nine days later, filed a counterclaim alleging breach of contract. Nelson claimed in a previous lawsuit that he refused to return his $159,000 earnest money deposit.
They claimed that Mr. Nelson, whom Mr. Bragin and Mr. Grijalva labeled in the documents as a “billionaire bully,” was so dissatisfied that he threatened to “cancel the wedding,” which Mr. Nelson labeled a “show.”
“Claudia begged Nelson not to cancel the wedding because it would ‘ruin Nicola’s career,'” the documents claimed.
Nelson argued in his lawsuit that the planners “didn’t provide a valuable service” and “rightfully” sought refunds, and in his filing called the countersuit “a good old-fashioned overhaul.”
According to documents obtained by Page Six in March 2023, the wedding planners demanded “more money for services the defendants did not provide.”
The billionaire’s lawyers also accused planners of a “shameful” attempt to “misrepresent Nicola in an extremely negative light in order to seduce the media and, if possible, pressure Mr. Peltz to dismiss well-founded allegations.”
“We love what we do and we’re good at what we do,” Bragin told the Daily Mail at the time, and claimed that Nicola had sent him a text message saying, “You can’t do it!” The day before their dismissal.
Amid the drama, the couple’s former wedding planner Preston Bailey offered a different take on Nicola and her family, calling her “amazing”.
Mr. Bailey was hired in April 2021 and resigned on March 1, 2022, telling Page Six at the time that he was “overworked.”
“We just couldn’t deliver the quality that we used to,” he said. “The best thing I can say about the Peltzes and Nicolas is that there was no bad blood.” Of the Peltzes, he said, “They are lovely people. They are important to me.”
Brooklyn and Nicola ultimately settled their lawsuit in September 2023. “The parties believe that this contract dispute between Nelson Peltz and Plan Design should be resolved on agreed upon terms,” Grijalva and Nicole Bragin told People in a statement.
“As part of the settlement, PDE will make a donation to the CARE Ukraine Crisis Fund in the names of Nicola and Brooklyn.”
“PDE wishes Nicola and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham a happy and productive life,” the statement concluded, with the outlet reporting that both lawsuits were “dismissed with prejudice.”
Brooklyn released a lengthy statement on Instagram on Monday, accusing Victoria and David of controlling “reporting about our family” and saying she “doesn’t want to reconcile” with her family.
He also accused his mother, a fashion designer, of “cancelling the making of her (wedding) dress at the 11th hour and being forced to find a new dress in a hurry, even though she was so looking forward to Nicola wearing her designs”, as well as “hijacking” his first dance with his new wife and then dancing “very inappropriately to me in front of everyone”.
“I have never felt so uncomfortable or humiliated in my life,” the aspiring chef added.
A wedding attendee previously told Page Six that the family feud came to a head when Marc Anthony, who performed at the wedding, invited Brooklyn to dance with “the most beautiful woman there” Victoria, leaving Nicola hurt.
They told Page Six that Victoria “went on stage and put her arm around Brooklyn” and “nuzzled his neck.”
“She stole that moment from Nicola. That’s God’s truth,” he added, noting that the bride “ran away crying.”
“Beckham’s side was cheering, but Peltz’s side was quiet,” they claimed.
