Selena Gomez made headlines for her reunion with Miley Cyrus at the Golden Globes, but she also had fellow former child star turned pop star Ariana Grande in mind. The singer regrammed a post from a Miley Cyrus fan account that likened the three women to adult Powerpuff Girls based on their ceremony attire.
Gomez added her own caption, writing, “Powerpuff girls. So proud of my women I grew up with! @mileycyrus @arianagrande.”
All three stars were nominated for Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards. Gomez and Grande received nominations in the acting categories, with Gomez receiving a nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Musical or Comedy in a Television Series (Murder in the Building) and Grande for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture (Wicked: For Good). Cyrus was recognized for her musical talent, winning the Motion Picture Award for Best Original Song for her song “Dream As One” from Avatar: Fire and Ash.
In December 2024, Grande and Gomez made headlines when they sat together at the Academy Women’s Luncheon. Both stars were campaigning for awards season on projects from Wicked (Grande) and Emilia Perez (Gomez). Shortly after the luncheon, Grande reposted a eulogy for Gomez, in which actress Emilia Perez wrote that she was an “angel on earth.” Grande replied, “It’s you, @selenagomez.”
The following month, The Hollywood Reporter asked both stars about working on a campaign together on the red carpet at the 2025 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards.
Gomez said, “It’s really crazy because we’re both going through things at the same time. We haven’t personally grown up together, but I feel like we have. It’s really nice to be asked, ‘Are you nervous?'” “Yes.” “Are you nervous?” “Yes.” ‘It’s fun. I’m proud of her, you know. ”
In her interview, Grande said, “Selena is the sweetest person in the world. I love doing that. I finally got to sit down and talk to her properly at the Academy Gala, and that was the best thing. She had to give a speech and she was nervous. “We talked about the tension and how what we do is beautiful and how it never gets old. That certain part of it is so beautiful to watch,” Grande echoed the praise in her own interview. I’m so happy for the work she’s done this year and how we’re being celebrated. She started so young and it’s great to see something like this happen. ”
