Fabian Münsterhelm’s Oscar-nominated live-action short film “Pantyhose” will be released worldwide on Cyon Media’s new streaming service, producers have announced.
Additionally, the director’s feature film, which is currently in development, is likely to use Cyon’s crowdfunding service as a funding tool.
“Pantyhose” is being screened in select theaters in Finland ahead of the feature film “Dead of Winter,” directed by Brian Kirk and starring Emma Thompson. It is distributed by Cinemance.
“Pantyhose” will be available worldwide via Cyon Media’s Web3-powered player. This player can be found across Cyon’s socials, including Substack.
Jenny Lipatti, producer at Wildhog Productions, said: “Audiences will be able to experience this film not just in Finnish cinemas, but from the comfort of their own couches anywhere in the world. We are currently developing features in collaboration with Fabian, and Sion’s platform could be the key to bringing this story to life.”
Münsterhjelm added: “Together with Jeni, we are developing a feature about the wrong man being released from prison, and the chase after the accident is a hilarious, full-fledged action-comedy chase that the whole family can enjoy together. I think we live in a time where we need feel-good movies and their power to bring people together around a good old-fashioned funny story.”
Cyon Media is a Finland-based company founded by broadcast systems architect Tracie Mitchell and producer Lotta Stenroos.
Director Mitchell said: “I’m thrilled to be part of this film’s journey towards global acclaim. Not only is this film an Academy Award finalist, but both Fabian and Jenni have the foresight to explore new technologies that will change the media economy to the advantage of filmmakers and creators.”
“Pantyhose” is one of 15 shorts on the shortlist for Best Live-Action Short Film at the 98th Academy Awards, chosen from an initial field of 207 nominees. Oscar nominations will be announced on January 22nd.
The film stars Satu Tuli Kalhu and Sampa Battar in lead roles. The scriptwriters are Sampa Batard and Münsterhelm.
Premium Films will be in charge of overseas sales.
