There was no memorial section at the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards, but Chelsea Handler paid tribute to the late Diane Keaton by rocking one of the iconic actress’ signature looks.
For one of her fashion looks as host of Sunday’s show, Handler wore a fitted black tuxedo with a crisp white shirt underneath and a black tie.
She told the audience it was a nod to Keaton, who was known for wearing tailored suits throughout his career.
“This little costume is a tribute to Diane Keaton, who we should remember tonight,” Handler said.
She added that the “Annie Hall” star was “someone who has given so much to all of us and everyone in this room.”
During the show, Handler also paid tribute to Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner, who were tragically murdered in December.
“Rob and Michelle worked tirelessly for so many important causes, all based on one fundamental idea: civility,” she said in her opening monologue. “I think we can all agree that we should all look out for each other, and we need more of that.”
Keaton died of pneumonia in October at the age of 79.
A friend told People at the time that Keaton’s health deteriorated “very suddenly” and unexpectedly in the months leading up to her death.
Shortly after her death, her trainer lovingly shared on Instagram that Keaton was rocking her signature menswear style even while working out.
“Everyone was very aware that she was in the room, of course, because of the kind of person she was,” he recalled. “But there was also the fact that she wore a hat, sunglasses, and pinstriped clothes to class, which caused a lot of fuss the whole time.”
Many of Keaton’s famous friends paid tribute to her after her death.
Last month, Goldie Hawn, her co-star in The First Wives Club, broke down in tears while paying tribute to her at the Women in Entertainment Gala.
“She brought so much joy, so much life, so much vibrancy,” Horn said on stage. “She was like lightning in a bottle.”
“There was nothing she couldn’t do,” she continued. “There was no world that she couldn’t live in. She was just an extraordinary human being.”
Keaton’s best friend Sarah Paulson also shed tears while talking about Keaton at the premiere of Old’s Fair in Los Angeles in December.
“But all I can say is… it’s important to me to let you know what you thought of her as a performer and even more as a person,” she told Access Hollywood.
