‘Fire and Ashes’ once again leads UK and Ireland holiday box office

Disney’s Avatar: Fire and Ashes maintained its No. 1 spot at the UK and Ireland box office for the second consecutive week, adding 6.1 million pounds ($8.2 million) to push its total to 20.8 million pounds ($28 million), according to ComScore. The threequel comfortably dominated the Christmas corridors, outperforming performances filled with holiday newcomers.

Lionsgate UK’s erotic thriller The Housemaid, starring Sidney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, debuted in second place with $6 million, making it one of the most adult openings in the Christmas corridor. Paramount’s “The SpongeBob Movie: The Search for Squarepants” followed in third place, opening with $4.1 million.

Disney’s “Zootopia 2” rose to fourth place in its fifth weekend, earning $2.1 million for a total of $30.4 million, while Entertainment Film Distributors’ newcomer “Marty Supreme” came in fifth with $1.9 million.

Sony’s “Anaconda” came in sixth place with $1.7 million, narrowly beating out Universal’s “Wicked: For Good” in seventh place. The musical added $1.1 million for a total of $60.3 million, cementing its status as one of the year’s biggest performers.

Further down the chart, Moviegoers Entertainment’s Bollywood blockbuster “Dhurandhar” ranked 8th with $343,000, taking its total box office gross to $3.4 million. Mubi’s “Sentimental Value” came in ninth with $339,000, narrowly beating Berkshire Dreamhouse’s Malayalam comedy “Sarvam Maya,” which rounded out the top 10 with $228,000.

The first major wide release of 2026 will take place on Thursday, January 1, as Universal rolls out the musical drama “Son San Bleu” to more than 300 locations. Directed by Craig Brewer, starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson.

Also opening on Thursday is Biavix’s Hong Kong drama “No Time for Goodbye,” directed by Dong Ng and starring Lam Yu-hsin and Kitty Yu.

On Friday, January 2nd, Picture House Entertainment will release Ira Sachs’ docu-drama A Day in the Life of Peter Hujard, and BFI Distribution will release Frederic Wiseman’s cooking documentary Menus Plaisirs: Les Troisgros.

History of Trinity Filmed Entertainment The science fiction film “Back To The Past” directed by Ng Yuen-fai and Jack Lai and starring Louis Koo, Jessica Hsuan and Raymond Lam will be released on over 25 sites.

Park Circus brings two high-profile commemorative releases to theaters. The animated hit “Happy Feet” will be re-screened in more than 100 locations to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and David Lynch’s “Blue Velvet” will be re-screened on a similar scale to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
