Maria Shriver paid a heartfelt tribute to Tatiana Schlossberg after the young mother of two passed away on Tuesday.
Schlossberg, the middle child of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, passed away after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia, his family shared on Instagram.
Reacting to the sad news, Schreiber, who was once Tatiana’s cousin, said he “couldn’t understand” Schlossberg’s death at just 35 years old.
“Today I return to this space to pay my respects to my beloved Tatiana, who passed away today,” Schreiber wrote, along with photos of Tatiana over the years. “I come back here to pay my respects and pay my respects to the loving and supportive family who did everything in their power to help her.”
“I returned to this space with a broken heart because Tatiana loved life,” she continued. “She loved her life and fought tooth and nail to save it.”
Schreiber praised Schlossberg as a great journalist and said she was “brave, strong, (and) courageous.”
She also had kind words for President Kennedy, 68.
Shriver, 70, wrote, “Ever since I was a little girl, my heart has always been with my cousin Caroline. Now my entire being is with her. She was truly an amazing person.”
Shriver, along with Tatiana’s two children with husband George Moran, son Eddie, 3, and daughter Josie, 1, vowed to keep Tatiana’s memory alive.
“Those of us left behind will let Eddie and Josie know what a beautiful and brave spirit their mother was and always will be,” she said. “She takes after her extraordinary mother, Caroline.”
“May we all be able to hug Tatiana’s family, not just today and for many years to come. And may each and every one of you reading this know how lucky you are to be alive right now,” she said. “Stop and admire your life. It’s truly a gift.”
Tatiana revealed in an essay she wrote for The New Yorker magazine in November that she had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.
She said doctors discovered her disease in May 2024 after giving birth to her daughter, but she had no obvious symptoms until then.
Doctors gave her only one year to live.
She spoke in heartbreaking detail about how Moran, whom she married in September 2017, supported her through her health battles.
“George did everything he could for me,” she said. “He talked to all the doctors and insurance people I didn’t want to talk to and slept on the hospital floor.”
