For Jason Clarke, it’s always family first.
The 56-year-old actor tells PEOPLE that if his wife, Cecile Brescia, woke up “one day” and asked him to quit his job, “I would be happy to do it.”
“I really think so,” he says. “I have no complaints about what I’ve done. It’s important that my family is happy. I love my family very much.”
Clark, who currently stars as convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh in Hulu’s true crime series Murdaugh: Death in the Family, says he has a “tough time planning” with Brescia and their two sons when working on current projects.
“You can’t do that without partners like me,” he says. “We have a good life. We enjoy traveling together. Who knows where we will end up someday?”

Before signing on for a job, Clark says he sometimes asks himself, “Do I have the energy to do it right now?”
“The 25-year-old in me wants to go and do it,” he says with a laugh. “Then you think, ‘I have two kids in school.’ There’s all this give and take, but I’m lucky to work with someone like Kathryn Bigelow on ‘House of Dynamite.’
Clark admitted that the change in schedule “sometimes makes me a little worried about (the boys).” “Then someone will say, ‘Oh, the boys love to travel. Let’s go out. Take them.'” he says.
The actor explains: “I want to be a great father, and whatever that entails, it’s a lot of ups and downs. I can show them the way, I can teach them things and stuff, but I want them to feel like their life is theirs, just like it’s my life. That’s what my parents gave me.”

He said he wanted to one day take his sons to his hometown of Winton, Queensland, to see “where I was born and where my father sheared sheep.”
“Their reality is going to be different than mine,” he says. “I always wanted to travel. I always knew that.[Now]I’ve traveled a lot around the world and I’ve lived in this country for a long time and I love this country. It’s your choice.”
Next year, the actor will be heading to India to shoot for a project. “The world is still a wonderful place to me,” Clark says.
