Toons Media Group CEO P. Jayakumar will step down from his role effective November 30 after more than 26 years at the helm of the Indian animation studio.
During his tenure, Mr. Jayakumar transformed Toonz from a pioneering Indian animation studio into a global entertainment player specializing in children’s and family content. The company expanded internationally, establishing studios and offices in India, Ireland, Spain and New Zealand.
“Leading Toons has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life,” Jayakumar said in a statement. “What began as a dream shared by a small and passionate team has today grown into a global powerhouse of creativity and storytelling.”
The outgoing CEO expressed his gratitude to the company’s team and international partners, and outlined his plans to move forward with new business ventures. “Despite leaving my current position, I will always have an emotional connection to Toons. Over the next few months, I will embark on a new venture that will continue my lifelong passion for creativity and collaboration in the global entertainment sector,” he said.
To facilitate the transition, Mr. Jayakumar has been working with Mr. Viswanath Rao, Acting Group CEO, and Mr. Karthik V. Kumar, who was recently appointed Finance Director and Director of Toons Animation India.
Founded in 1999 and headquartered at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram, Toonz Media Group has produced and distributed thousands of hours of animated content in collaboration with leading studios, broadcasters and streaming platforms around the world. The company specializes in animation, VFX and digital content targeted at children and family audiences.
Current Toonz projects include “New-Gen Nanobot Heroes” and “Hangry Petz.”
