Elizabeth Olsen shared a sweet moment with Today host Sheinelle Jones during an appearance on the show.
Olsen, 37, admitted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on Tuesday, November 25, that Jones, 47, admitted that she felt comfortable watching Olsen’s new afterlife romantic comedy Eternity after her husband Uche Ojie passed away in May.
“I was just on the Today show, and Sheinelle[Jones]was working at the same time I was on,” Olsen told THR, telling the magazine’s reporter that she watched the movie with a woman who recently lost her husband to cancer. Olsen appeared on the Today show on November 12 to promote the film.
“And before I continued,[Jones]said, ‘Not to be depressed or anything, but I lost my husband earlier this year, so I watched your movie yesterday. I really enjoyed it and it really gave me a sense of relief. I actually felt kind of healed,'” Olsen added.
“So these are reactions that you don’t usually get to have one-on-one with people, and you don’t really think about that becoming that. You just think about the universality of it. So it makes sense to hear that people are having experiences like that.”

The Today show announced on May 23 that Jones’ husband Ogier had passed away at the age of 45 after being diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor. Jones took a sabbatical from Today at the end of 2024, returning to the show in September.
Jones recently told Wicked: For Good stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande that he felt the new film was “transcendent for me in a way I never knew I needed” following a family tragedy.
“I was so excited to see these characters be strong and brave and vulnerable, and I’m sitting there thinking, ‘Okay, if these women can do this on screen, then I can do it in my own way,'” she told Erivo, 38, and Grande, 32, in an interview that aired the same day as Olsen’s Today show appearance. “I’m strong, brave, courageous, and able to express not just your character, but who you are as a real-life woman.”

Olsen co-stars with Miles Teller and Callum Turner in “Eternity,” which is set in “the afterlife, where souls have a week to decide where they will spend eternity,” as the synopsis states. Olsen will play Joan, a woman who, after her death, is forced to choose between the man she spent her life with and her first love.
“Eternity” is currently in theaters.
