Shay Buckner will play a young Dwayne Pride in NCIS: Origins. The role is a role played by Scott Bakula on “NCIS,” and he will star in the spin-off series “NCIS: New Orleans,” which ran for seven seasons from 2014 to 2021.

Buckner will appear in an upcoming episode of the currently airing second season of the NCIS prequel series. His official character description reads, “Former sheriff’s deputy and NIS Special Agent Dwayne Pride is a newly appointed apprentice special agent from the NIS Panama office. He has a past with Gibbs (Austin Stowell), and the two must resolve past tensions as they go undercover on a case.”

Co-showrunners Gina Lucita Monreal and David J. North said in a statement: “One of the special things about ‘NCIS: Origins’ is that we get to explore the early days of so many beloved characters from the franchise.” “We’re excited to go back in time and meet the 1990s version of New Orleans’ Pride and Joy, legendary Special Agent Dwayne Pride, and learn more about his history with Gibbs.”

Buckner recently appeared as Tony Casimerio in Season 5 of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” and as Stanley Kowalski in Bay Street Theater’s off-Broadway production of “A Streetcar Named Desire.” He is also a former Olympian who played water polo for the United States and is repped by Gersh and Vault Entertainment.

“NCIS: Origins” follows Mark Harmon’s young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon on “NCIS,” in the early ’90s. Mr. Harmon says. Season 2 follows the Camp Pendleton team, led by Mike Franks (Kyle Schmidt), and Gibbs’ early career as a special agent. The cast also includes Mariel Molino, Caleb Foote, Tyra Abercromby, and Diane Rodriguez. The film will be produced by CBS Studios and executive produced by North, Monreal, Harmon and Sean Harmon. Jason Kennedy, Christy Baxter and Meredith Goble will serve as casting directors.
