Toby Wallace has been cast as the lead in Netflix’s upcoming TV series Assassin’s Creed, Variety has confirmed.

The live-action show, based on the video game series of the same name, was made into a series on Netflix in June. Exact character details are being kept secret.

The show’s official logline states, “The series centers on a secret war between two shadowy forces, one seeking to determine humanity’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows the characters as they navigate key historical events as they fight to shape humanity’s destiny.”

The Assassin’s Creed games explore the war between the rival secret orders of the Assassins and the Templars. They use advanced machines to access the Assassins’ genetic memories from different times in the past and track down powerful artifacts called Pieces of Eden.

Wallace is best known for appearing in films such as “Bike Riders,” “Babyteeth,” “The Finest Kind,” and “The Royal Hotel.” On television, he starred in the FX limited series Pistols, which tells the story of the pioneering punk band the Sex Pistols. He has appeared on shows such as “The Society” and “Romper Stomper,” and will appear in Season 3 of HBO’s “Euphoria.”

Roberto Patino and David Weiner serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers. Ubisoft Film & Television’s Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill and Genevieve Jones will serve as executive producers, with Matt O’Toole also serving as executive producer.

The first Assassin’s Creed game came out in 2007 and was an instant hit, with more than 230 million copies of the series’ various titles sold to date. To date, 14 films have been produced in the main series, the latest being “Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” released in 2025. A film adaptation starring Michael Fassbender was released in 2016.

Deadline first reported Wallace’s casting.
