Kendrick Lamar and “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone aren’t ready to release the mysterious live-action comedy just yet. Paramount has removed the trio’s untitled feature from its March 20 release date and postponed its theatrical release indefinitely as the project continues to be tweaked.
A joint statement attributed to Stone and Parker’s production company Park County and Lamarr’s company PGLang read: “It’s true. We are moving (again). We are working hard to complete the film.”
The long-conceived film had previously made significant changes from Paramount’s release calendar. When released in 2024, the film was scheduled for release on July 4, 2025, apparently coinciding with the Independence Day holiday. Three months later, the studio was postponed to March 20, 2026. Now, four months later, the film has been postponed again, this time with no new date set.
Details of the live-action collaboration between Lamar, Parker, and Stone have been closely guarded, as the lack of an official title suggests. Cast members and logline have not been disclosed. What is known is that the film was written by comedian Vernon Chatman. Lamar, Parker and Stone are producers along with PGLang’s Dave Free.
Lamar is on track to earn nine nominations at the 2026 Grammy Awards, leading this year’s field of nominations after receiving critical acclaim for his smash hip-hop album “GNX” and single “Luther.” Last year, his single “Not Like Us” won two of the top three Grammy Awards. Meanwhile, Parker and Stone continue to work on South Park Season 28, which criticizes President Trump, with new episodes premiering every other Wednesday on Comedy Central.
