Sadie Sink became internationally known after joining the cast of Season 2 of Netflix’s Stranger Things in 2017. Since then, the actress has landed roles in the Oscar-winning film The Whale, co-starring Brendan Fraser, and the Netflix horror trilogy Fear Street. Playing the lead role in Taylor Swift’s All Too Well: The Short Film in 2021 was another big moment for Sink, which saw her reenact the throes of a dying romance.
Reflecting on his role in Swift’s film, Sink later told Variety, “At that point, I had never been in love.” She went on to say, “I had never experienced a breakup so intense. Everything was foreign territory to me.” Although Sink keeps much of her personal life low-key, the actress has had romantic relationships with many people in the entertainment industry. Here’s what you need to know about Sink’s complete dating history.
Sink was previously linked to her Stranger Things co-star
Sink’s character, Max, on Stranger Things, works with a group of main men, so the actress inevitably ends up romantically involved with several of the show’s actors. However, it seems that all the rumors are just unfounded rumors.
In August 2022, speculation surfaced regarding Synch and fellow Netflix star Finn Wolfhard. As Nicki Swift reported, the idea that the two were dating appeared to come from TikTok, with multiple fans criticizing the gossip on social media. As the paper noted, Wolfhard was said to have been dating actress Elsie Richter at the time, and any suggestion of a romance with Sink was “all unsubstantiated rumors.”
As if having an affair with one of her male co-stars wasn’t enough, reports of an alleged affair between Sink and Caleb McLaughlin, the actor who plays Max’s love interest Lucas in Stranger Things, have been circulating and reposted on social media. However, in real life their relationship seems to have always been strictly platonic. In November 2017, Sink spoke with McLaughlin about filming their on-screen kiss, telling The Wrap, “It was my first kiss, so of course I was nervous, right?” she continued. “But I never objected (to it) or felt like anything was forced on me…If I felt uncomfortable with something, I wouldn’t have done it.”
The Dear Zoe star elaborated on the fact that her first kiss took place while filming Stranger Things, telling W in 2023: “It was awkward for both of us, but it was funny because all our friends were there and there was lots of extras and lights and music. I was nervous at the time, but looking back on it now, I can laugh about it.”
Essentially, Think’s Stranger Things co-stars became her “support group.” They were “all going through the same thing at the same time,” she told Glamor magazine in 2022. “The bond between all of us was so instantaneous that it was amazing in a way, and I think that bond will only get stronger and stronger as time goes on,” she said.
Was Sink dating Joe Alwyn’s brother?
In an unexpected turn of events, there were reports that Sink is dating none other than Patrick Alwyn, the younger brother of Swift’s ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. In September 2021, the actress was photographed spending time with Patrick in New York City.
Of course, as Cosmopolitan reported, some fans wondered if Swift was playing “matchmaker” between the two, especially after Sink starred in Swift’s short film All Too Well. However, it is unclear whether Sink was actually dating Patrick, and it is entirely possible that they were just friends.
Did Sink and Dylan O’Brien ever have a romantic relationship?
Sink co-starred with Dylan O’Brien in a 10-minute music video and short film for Swift’s Red-era song “All Too Well.” In the film, which is based on Swift’s past relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal, Sink plays a young woman who falls in love with an older man, and then reminisces about all the glorious and terrifying moments they had together. Sink was romantically involved in the press with on-screen boyfriend O’Brien. The existence of any relationship was neither confirmed nor denied.
Singer Gracie Abrams mentioned sync in a song on her 2024 album, The Secret of Us, Harper’s Bazaar reports. On “Cool,” which is said to be about Abrams’ own rumored romance with O’Brien, she sings, “I wish I didn’t, but I knew too much/You stopped me when Sadie and Sarah opened up/I wasted mascara, I thought we wouldn’t talk/I was wrong.”
Regarding his experience of appearing in the singer’s project, Sink told Variety that during filming, “(her) personal life came to the forefront, which made it even more exciting.” The actress also said that she no longer listens to “All Too Well” to “relax,” telling the outlet, “I have this incredibly nostalgic feeling that I’m physically feeling in my body right now…it’s just too intense.” Of course, without confirmation from O’Brien, Sink and Abrams, it’s unclear whether Swift’s All Too Well: The Short Film led to a real-life romance.
